New Years Resolution 2013

New Years Resolution 2013

I haven't made a New Years Resolution in quite a few years.
This year I thought of something that I would like to try.  It's not about weight, exercising, organizing, or money...... though I should probably be thinking about those things too.

 IT'S ABOUT HAPPINESS!
Not just my happiness, but wanting to make others happy as well.  It truly brings me joy to make others smile.  By doing something nice for someone else, it actually brings me happiness & makes me feel great inside.
It's a win win!

I am going to try and do at least one kind thing for someone every day next year, whether it be opening a door for someone, buying someone a cup of coffee, giving out some flowers, taking a shopping cart back for someone, or just doing something nice at home for my family or friends.

I look forward to 2013 being a great year & look forward to lots of Smiles!

Sports Themed Quilts

I have so many quilts that I want to make or have in the process of making, but just haven't had much time to work on them lately.  I finally finished some & thought I would share.  The pics aren't great, but you can get an idea of what they look like.

Favorite songs of the week

My favorite songs this week are:

Adele "Someone like you"  I just love this song!  I love to sing it (alone & horribly of course LOL) & it just feels like such an emotional & beautiful song.  I love her voice & the lyrics, & just everything about this song.

Foster the People "Pumped up kicks"  I have no idea why I like this song, but I just do.

OneRepublic "Good Life"  This song is just a feel good song to me.  Usually fast & upbeat songs are the one's that tend to make me feel happy, but something about this song does the same thing.

This is probably my #1 favorite song this week.  There is an original version & then a radio station here did a remix version to add in some talking & stuff.  I like both versions.  This song is fun to listen to in the car, the kids love to sing along with me, & well it's true....
San Diego is my city
& I love it, I love it
I was born & raised here
I've got it made here
& if I have my way
I'm gonna stay here
For life!

Fruit Salad Yummy Yummy

One thing that is great about summertime, is all of the wonderful fruits that are in season.  Not only are they in season, but they are a lot more affordable too.  I went to our local farmer's market type store today called Sprout's and picked up some delicious fruits.  Lately I have been cutting up watermelon & cantaloupe into bite size pieces & putting them in plastic cups for my kids to eat.  It makes it a fun & easy snack that they can help themselves to.  So, here are some of the wonderful fruits I picked out today:

Cantaloupe:

Grapes:

Strawberries:

Blueberries:

Raspberries:

Blackberries:

I decided to take all of the fruits:

& make a fruit salad Yummy Yummy!!

I then took scoops of the fruit salad & filled up some plastic cups:

Topped the cups with some plastic wrap & a rubber band:

Then stuck them in the fridge for when the kids are ready for a nice snack.

I also picked up some apples, bananas, cherries, plums, & nectarines that look fabulous as well.  I may turn them into a fruit salad this week too.

Our Mini Vacation at Santee Lakes

We were going to spend a few days out in the desert riding our ATV's this spring break, but decided not to go. It was going to be in the 90's out there & that just would not have been very fun. We wanted to do something, but weren't really sure what. I thought about taking the kids fishing out at Santee lakes & decided to check out the website to see if anything was going on out there & how much fishing would cost etc...

While browsing the website, I noticed that they had new water front cabins that you could rent. I checked to see if anything was available, & by chance they had 1 available for Wednesday & Thursday night. We decided to book it right away online before someone else got it. We reserved cabin #10, which was on the end & figured that would be an added plus since there wouldn't be anyone next to us on one side.

The cabin cost $100.00 per night for a Wednesday & Thursday. We were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The cabin was awesome! They are new right now, so that makes them extra nice LOL. They just opened them up on April 1st of this year. The cabin had pretty much everything we needed except for food & linens, & personal items.

Things included in the cabin were:

Sleeping Accommodations:
Queen Bed (sleeps 2)
Sofa Sleeper (sleeps 2)
Bunk Beds (sleeps 2)

Kitchen:
Cookware & Utensils
Paper Plates, Bowls
Coffee Pot
Hot Cups, Plastic Cups
Plasticware, Steak Knives
Dish Soap, Sponge
Microwave
Toaster
Electric Stovetop Burners
Refrigerator
Dinette table & 2 chairs

Bathroom:
Shower/bathtub
Sink
Toilet
Toilet paper

Living Room:
Sofa
Chair
TV
DVD Player

Outdoor Amenities:
Barbeque w/ utensils & Propane
Fire Ring
Porch
2 Patio Chairs

This is what was suggested to bring:
Linens (they suggested sleeping bags, but we brought sheets & blankets)
Pillows
Towels
Toiletries
Shampoo & Soap
Food
Fishing Gear
Beach Chairs
Hair dryer
Firewood

Here are some pics of the inside of the cabin:

This is looking in from the door (kitchen, dining area, & hallway.  On the left side of the hall is where the bunk beds are & to the right is the bathroom.  At the end of the hall is the bedroom with the queen size bed).

When we checked in, they let us know to give the cabin host a call if we needed anything like toilet paper, more plates, etc... They also said that there was a basketball hoop & horse shoe pit right next to our cabin & if we needed a basketball or horseshoes to play, they would also bring those for us to use. We did end up calling for a basketball & got to keep it our entire time there & just left it in the cabin when it was time to leave.

A really nice surprise upon checking in was also finding out that we would have use of pedal boats. There were 2 pedal boats available for the cabins to share & they even had life jackets available in adult & children sizes.

We all enjoyed some fishing!  At Santee lakes you don't have to have a state fishing license to fish, but you do have to pay for a day use and or night use pass.  I was lucky & caught 2 catfish & a small bass.  We released all of the fish that we caught.  It was fun, but really weren't in the mood to clean & cook the fish LOL.

Trina caught a little guy

Megan fishing...she baited her own hook & cast her line out all by herself.

Caught & reeled in her very first fish all by herslef

There were other things to do at Santee lakes too, like feeding the ducks.....

Playing at a playground............

Slushies from the country store............

Relaxing..........

and of course campfires..........

We had such a great time & every single one of us were bummed to have to leave.  We even tried to see if it was available for one more night, but it was already booked.  We will definitely do this again!
