Project Kids Room - All Finished!

We finished the kids room today!  We had them spend the weekend with grandma, so that we could surprise them with all of the new changes to their room.  I absolutely love how it turned out!

Here is Megan's side of the room:
We got her a canopy for her bed, to add a princess type vibe, got a valance for the window that is pink & purple & has jewels dangling from the bottom, &  I made the twin size comforter for her bed.

I made the mirror on the wall with stick on jewels, scrapbooking stickers,  glued feather boas all the way around the outside of it.  I made the letters with her name to put on the wall too.  We hung up a hanging rack, so that she can hang her jackets or necklaces, or just what ever she wants.

Below is a close up of the comforter fabric.  It's little crown's & tiara's.

Joshua loves baseball, so we did a baseball theme for his side of the room.  I took his first baseball jersey & put it in a poster frame.  My husband painted the frame red for me to match the color scheme I was going for.  He also painted the shelves red, & the hanging rack red as well.   I got a picture frame & added some scrapbooking stickers to it & a picture of Josh (the pic to the left of the jersey).  On his shelves are his baseball trophy's & 2 of the game balls he was given for being MVP of the game.  I got a couple of plastic cases to keep the balls in. The baseball picture frame I found on clearance & had to get it.  I put a picture of Joshua pitching in his first game this season.  I made a pennant out of felt with his current team name & current jersey number (hanging to the right of the shelves) & I made the twin size comforter for his bed which is also in a baseball theme.

We found a wooden bat to hang up & lucked out by finding some red hooks to hang it up with.  For the closet we just used some fabric shower curtains.  It used to have some wooden doors, but they are a real pain in the butt, so we took them out.

This is just a close up of the fabric I used to make Joshua's comforter.

It took a lot of work & we finished with just about an hour to spare before the kids came back home.  They love it, now we will see just how long they can keep it clean for LOL.

Project Kids Room - Decorations

Today I have been working on some things to put in the kids room.

I made some letters to hang on the wall for my daughter.  I still have to get some ribbon to hang them but here are the letters:

I bought wooden letters at Walmart,  painted them & then realized that I really should have sanded them down a bit. After the paint dried, I sanded them down, & then repainted them again.

This is after I added the purple designs:

& here they are all finished with the painting & a coat of gloss:

I bought this mirror & added stickers to it...jewel stickers for all around the base & some scrapbooking type stickers to put on the actual mirror part. Don't mind the mirror view LOL it's in a closet, so that my daughter won't see it until I put it in her room.

For my son, I bought a cheap picture frame that is the same color as his bed will be.  It had a matting inside the frame, so I bought some scrapbooking stickers & embellished the mat with them & then added one of his pictures.

Project Kids Room

Our two youngest kids share a room.  They have shared a bunk bed for the past 6 years or so.  My husband made the bunk bed & it has been really great!  Here is a picture from when he made it all those years ago:

He made the bunk bed to fit the kids toddler/crib size mattresses.  This bed made it easy to have more space in small rooms.  They have now grown too tall for the toddler size mattresses & it's time to move up to twin size.

We bought them another bunk bed set in a twin size, but we aren't going to use it as bunk beds for now.  We are going to leave them separate, so they can each have their own space.  If we ever need for them to be bunk beds again, it is nice to have that option.  This is the bunk bed set we bought for the kids & should be able to pick up sometime this week.

We decided that with a new bed for each kiddo, we would try and redecorate their room a little bit.  We went and picked out some paint & painted the room this weekend.  They each will have 2 walls to decorate as their own.  Megan's color is purplicious & Joshua's is ship's ahoy.  He actually wanted red, but we convinced him to go with a blue, so that it would match a little bit better with the purple & hopefully won't be as difficult to recover in paint the next time we have to move.

Here are some pics of the painting we did this weekend:

This is a before picture (yes the carpet is hideous! We know LOL)

Some pics of the colors all done:

Megan is wanting a very girly & princess type theme for her bed & side of the room.  Joshua is wanting a baseball theme for his.  I have a lot of ideas in my head that I hope I can make happen LOL.  I will post the progress of how the room is coming along as we add/change more things.
